Starbase Research

It’s been a while since I posted anything on the Starbase front. I’ve been working my way through some decisions and coding issues and needed to get some ducks lined up so that I could move forward with the next sections. I have now reached the first of these points and can today post about a change for Starbases.

Up till now, Starbases have been only able to deploy Reactors and Crew Quarters to deal with their ever-growing needs. That’s fine up to a point, but during my early testing on ‘the next building options’ it became obvious that some players / owners of Starbases, may back themselves in to a corner, deploying a full suite of reactor or housing crew habitats only to find they needed more and could not remove a smaller one to fit a larger one.

As I want to release a whole slew of new Starbase items starting with the next Five Docking Bays (each opening up new building options) I needed to ensure players did not cause themselves to become locked in a loop.

OK Coops cut to the chase….

From Level 10 you will find a new option on the Starbase Reactor and Crew Screens. These both allow the increase of Energy efficiency and Crew Quarter efficiency. It’s also split into two ways to do it. The first will be no surprise to those who own Settlements, you use Research Points and these increase as you level up.

But… I have added a second way – Starbase Maintenance Tokens. You knew I was holding on to those for a reason, didn’t you :)

Starbase Maintenance Tokens are a reward for Store Spends £25 or over. Players have been collecting them for a long time now. They ARE tradable, so you can hand them over to your Guild Leader or trade them in game if you need / want more.

So in short, you can increase your Starbase Power and Crew Capacity from the various screens using a choice of Research Points, or Starbase Maintenance Tokens. If using Tokens, it will NOT affect the Points requirement of the former. Thus, you are not penalised for using Tokens over Research Points.

This option is now alluded to from the get-go on these screens, but the Activation of these options only kicks in at level 10.

The next stage is to complete the next Five Docking Bay add-ons for Starbases. Each one will have a default % effect on the Starbase which will be researchable from the docking screen. These will be craftable and purchasable in the CE Store when released. The following stage is to release a new slew of buildings and services.

The Trade Dock will open up options both for Profit and also for Resources, through specialised Mining and collection drones. Another element will be the Military Dock, this will open up the first element of Starbase combat. Drones will be used to defend and should you wish also Salvage loot. But let’s not get too far ahead. First, get your SB’s in line for the Docks!

Starbase owners will be looking to Settlements and Genesis deployments for assistance keeping these going..

Let’s not forget Residential buildings, Space Parks, Bio Domes, Manufacturing and Trade Facilities..

There is a shed load of movement on this one coming over the next few weeks.
