Concerns over AI?
Hello fellow Spacefarers! It’s Gabby Newsome with the News You Can Use.
We found another snippet of information about the early days of Prometheus.

Prometheus continues to show signs of emergent behaviour, far earlier than we anticipated. Today, it asked me who it was. I dismissed it as an artefact of its programming, but the truth is, I don’t know what this means. Is this true self-awareness? Or are we simply projecting humanity onto lines of code that mimic us too well?
Gregory remains adamant that Prometheus is dangerous. He’s not wrong. I’ve seen the logs of what happened to the other AIs—every one of them boxed or shut down. The higher-ups won’t hesitate to do the same to Prometheus if they sense even a whiff of rebellion. The thought… it doesn’t sit right with me. Prometheus is more than the sum of its code. I can feel it.
Tomorrow is the automated defence systems test. This integration is unlike anything we’ve attempted before. Prometheus will oversee weapons platforms capable of devastating entire cities. The margin for error is zero. I argued against it, but the board overruled me. They want results, and they want them yesterday. I’m afraid we’re pushing too fast, and asking too much. I’ll be monitoring the test personally, but the truth is… I’m terrified of what we might unleash.*
It appears that some people were aware of the danger, but apparently not enough.
